This illustration has been reedited several times. Somehow I guess, that my illustrations never might come to an end.
Haven't you thought about many funny situations of Jack Sparrow, too? This one is one of mine. Jack pointing to one direction (actually we don't know where his compass is pointing to), the ape is pointing to the island behind ... but the chest and the sea don't care either. Still Jack claims to be the captain of his ship. And I bet he is just pointing to the direction the chest is swimming to. Imagine someone having a dog and ordering it to sit while it already sits.
The title is inspired by a german movie called 'Herr der Sieben Meere', in English 'The Seawolf'. I just translated the german title back into English.
I guess, it should be a funny theme like 'Monkey Island - Le Chuck's Theme'.
Nice to know:
Pirates not only plunder on sea. Among the most famous ones there are pirates who raid the land. And pirates also are responsible for the idea of a recompensation/insurance. If you lost a leg, arm, eye and so on, you got a certain part of the loot on top.
After picking many references I created some rough drawings, which I used to illustrate this within Photoshop.
My usual technic is similar to airbrush. Masking the single elements (so I don't need to take that much care of the borders later on). Custom texture brushes increase the credibility. The original size would fit on a poster.
Here goes the closeup of the face
